Because we'll be moving our image between Photoshop and Painter we'll needa way to migrate our work back and forth without losing information. The key to this is Photoshops native PSD format.Painter is capable of reading and writing files in this format with a few caviats.Let's go over them, first of all let'stalk about the compatibility, basically layers are compatiblewith one another, however you do want to remember thatin Photoshop, the default layer is called a normal layer. The format painter tool just picks up the attributes of the last piece of text that you had selected, then allow you to 'paint' that on to text anywhere else in the document. Then you can select different text with different attributes and 'paint' that else where if you like too.
You can easily duplicate stuff in PowerPoint. Youcan just select a shape and press the Ctrl + D key combination. However, such duplication copies everything: the shape, and its format attributes, such as allfills, outlines, and effects. Sometimesyou may only want to use those fill, outline, and effect attributes for other shapes you create. For instance, let us imagine that youhave a square that is colored orange, has no outline, and contains a bevel effect. Now you draw a star on your slide and it has completelydifferent attributes. How can you make sure that it matches the attributes of the square? You can spend some time, and apply thoseattributes to the star manually, but if you need to do that for ten or fifteen more shapes, that may result in a few hours of repetitivework! Fortunately, the Format Painter command can rescue you from this monotonous task very easily. So what does theFormat Painter command do? Here are some answers:
- Format Painter copies attributes from one shape to other shapes on the same slide, the same presentation, or across presentations.
- Format Painter works beyond the shapes on any other slide object. You can use it to copy the look of text placeholders, tables, pictures, charts, etc.
Follow these steps to use the Format Painter in PowerPoint2013 for Windows:
- Select the shape whose attributes you want to copy, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Shape from which attributes are to be copied- Now access the Home tab of the Ribbon. Andclick the Format Painter button, as shown highlighted in red withinFigure 2.
Figure 2: Format Painter button- This will change the cursor to a paintbrush icon, as shown in Figure 3.
Figure 3: Cursor after clicking the Format Painter button- Now just click on the shape to which you want all attributes of the original shape to be copied (see Figure 4).
Figure 4: Shape attributes copied to the other shape- If you have more than one shape on the slide and you want to apply the same attributes to all the shapes, just double-click theFormat Painter button so it remains selected and click on any other shapes you want. These other shapes need not be onthe same slide. In fact they need not be on the same presentation. What's important is all those slides must be open.
- Then click the Format Painter button again to deselect it or justpress the Esc key. Figure 5 shows the attributes of the original shape applied to severalother shapes.

The Problem
Format Painter Photoshop Download
Photoshop is still missing a Paste–Text–and–Match–Style function, despite many users desperately screaming for one. There are many cases when that is needed, the common pattern being that you have a styled text object into which you want to paste text from somewhere else, discarding any styling that text might already have.
The mainstream recommended workaround is to first copy–paste the incorrectly–styled text into a plain text editor to remove the styling, then copy the text from there, switch back to Photoshop and paste into your correctly–styled text object. Must have osx apps.
That solution is far from ideal. Although not perfect either, this small hack at least takes it one step forward: no need to open a separate text editor. Just use Photoshop itself. Here's how it works:
The Solution
- Copy the text you need to paste, from wherever (web, other app, other Photoshop file).
- Select the Ps Type tool (you would be doing this anyway, because you're pasting into a text object).
- Paste into the Font drop-down. (this is the 'hack' part)
- Select All from the Font drop-down and Copy again.
- Hit Escape. (to revert the Font drop-down selection to what it was before and prevent getting an error)
- Paste into your destination text object.
That's it.

Paste and match style replacement hack, steps
Why it works
The Font drop–down, like most text input elements in most software, is plain text, just like a plain text editor. So it too will remove styling when copy–pasting into it, leaving you with unstyled text, ready for the final move. As a bonus, the Font drop–down also accepts multi–line text, so you can use it to unstyle any length of text. Roadblocks app download.
Other Uses
This technique can be used in any software where the 'Paste without style' function is missing. And of course it's not limited to the Ps Type tool input for unstyling the text. For example, the Spotlight search field can be used on Macs, or Chrome's URL bar, or whatever text input is most convenient.
